Why do I need to prove where my money comes from? (verify source of funds)
Sometimes when money lands in your Send wallet, we'll ask you to tell us where it came from. This article explains why we ask, what we'll need from you, and what happens next.
Before you start
- You'll see a task in your Send portal called Provide source of funds.
- Have any supporting documents ready (for example, a payslip, bank statement, contract of sale, or gift letter), depending on where the money came from.
Why we ask
We may ask you to confirm where the money for a specific transaction came from. This helps us verify the source of funds for that transaction and meet our legal and compliance obligations.
How to verify the source of funds
Step 1: Open the task in your Send portal
When a source of funds check is needed, a task called Provide source of funds will appear in your task list. Open it to get started.
For more about how tasks work, see What's a task and why do we ask for this information and How to submit a task.

Step 2: Select where the money came from
You'll be shown a drop-down list. Choose the option that best describes where this money came from:
- Business income or profits
- Employment income
- Gambling or lottery wins
- Gifts
- Income from investments and financial assets
- Inheritance
- Legal settlement
- Property sale
- Savings
- Something else
If none of the listed options fit, choose Something else. You’ll see a text box. Write a short, clear explanation of where the money came from. We may follow up to ask for a document based on what you tell us.

Step 3: Provide the supporting document
Once you've selected an option, a new task called Verify source of funds will appear automatically.
The documents we ask for can vary depending on the source of funds and the transaction. Your task will show the documents we can usually accept for that request.
- Open the new task and follow the instructions on screen.
- Upload a clear copy of the document. Make sure your name and the relevant details are easy to read.
- If you're not sure which document to use, contact our support team before uploading.

What happens next
- Our team reviews source of funds documents and reviews are typically completed within 1 business day.
- If we need anything else, we'll create a follow-up task in your portal.
Common questions
I've sent money in before, why are you asking now?
We do not ask for source of funds information on every transaction. We may ask for it when a transaction requires additional compliance checks.
I'm not sure which option to choose.
Pick the option that best matches where the money actually came from. If it doesn't fit any of the listed categories, choose Something else and explain in your own words. If you're still unsure, contact our support team before submitting.
I don't have the exact document listed.
The documents we can accept can vary depending on the source of funds and the transaction. Follow the guidance shown on the task page first, and if what you have isn't listed, contact our support team before uploading so we can let you know what may work.
My document was rejected or you've asked for more information.
This can happen if a document is unclear, expired, or doesn't show the details we need (like your name or the amount). Check the new task in your portal for what's required and upload a fresh copy.
What if I don't want to provide this?
If the required source of funds information is not provided, we may not be able to complete the review for that transaction. If you have concerns about sharing a document, contact our support team and we'll talk you through your options.
