Which countries can I open a Send account from?
To open an account from outside Australia or New Zealand, we just need to verify a few quick details about your residency or business.
Send’s standard online application pathway is currently available to individuals and businesses who usually live in and Australia or New Zealand.
If you live outside Australia or New Zealand, you can still start the sign-up process using your actual country of residence. Depending on where you live, you may be able to continue online for further review, or you may be prompted to contact our support team.
Country and product availability can change over time, so eligibility is confirmed at sign-up. This article explains what to do based on your country of residence.
Before you start
- This article applies to personal accounts. If you're applying for a business account, see Can my business open a Send account?
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Have a valid identification document available, such as a passport or driver’s licence, see Who can open an account with Send? and What do I need to open an account?
- Tell us your usual country of residence, the country where you normally live, rather than a country you are visiting temporarily.
- All applications are subject to identity verification, eligibility requirements and approval by Send.
- If your country is not available to select during sign-up, contact our support team rather than selecting a different country.
Where we currently onboard individuals
If you live in Australia
Send’s standard online application pathway is available to individuals who usually live in Australia.
You can begin your application online. We’ll ask for information about you and how you expect to use Send, and guide you through the required identity verification and onboarding checks.
We'll review your application as part of our normal onboarding checks.
If you live outside Australia
Living outside Australia does not automatically mean that Send cannot consider your application.
You can start your application online using your actual country of residence. Once submitted, your application will be referred for manual review.
We may consider factors including:
- Your country of residence
- Your citizenship or residency status
- Any relevant connection to Australia
- How you intend to use the account
- The countries, currencies and payment routes you need
- Whether we and our banking or payment providers can support the required services
- Applicable legal, regulatory, compliance and risk requirements
We may contact you for further information or documents before completing the review.
Each application is assessed on its own circumstances. Being an Australian citizen, holding an Australian bank account or having another connection to Australia may be relevant, but does not automatically guarantee approval.
Applications from customers living outside Australia may take longer because additional review is required. Some products, currencies or payment routes may not be available.
If you need an account for a business, please see Can my business open a Send account?
Countries we may not be able to support
We cannot offer accounts or services in every country. Whether we can support your country depends on a combination of factors, including:
- Sanctions or other legal restrictions
- Local licensing or regulatory requirements
- Financial crime and country risk considerations
- Banking, provider or payment-route limitations
- The currencies or payment routes required
Country and product availability can change over time.
How to check if your country is supported
The easiest way to find out is to start the sign-up process:
- Go to the Send website and start signing-up for a Send account.
- Select your country of residence, or the country of business registration.
- If your country is supported, you can continue with sign-up.
- If your country is not supported, you'll be prompted to contact our support team.
Please do not select a different country in order to continue. We assess where you actually live, so choosing a different country of residence may cause your application to be declined.
Why we ask where you live
Your country of residence helps us determine:
- Which legal and regulatory requirements apply
- Which products and services may be available to you
- Whether we can complete the required identity and compliance checks
- Whether the countries, currencies and payment routes you need are supported
Approval for a Send account does not automatically mean that every product, country, currency or payment route will be available.
What happens next
- If you live in Australia, you can begin your application online.
- If you live outside Australia, you can still submit your application online, but it will be referred for manual review.
- We may contact you if we need further information or documents.
- We’ll let you know once the review is complete or if we cannot support your application.
- All applications are subject to identity and compliance checks, even where your country is supported.
