What is a Colombian Cédula (CC number)?

When you add an individual recipient who lives in Colombia, Send may ask you for their Cédula (CC number) as part of the recipient details. This article explains what it is and what to do at this step.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A Send acccount
  • Your recipient's Cédula (CC number)

Send will only ask for this when you're adding an individual recipient. You won't see this field when adding a business recipient.

What is a Cédula (CC number)?

  • A Cédula, sometimes shown as the CC number, is a personal identification number used for individuals in Colombia. It is also used as an individual tax identification number.
  • When you reach this step, the Send screen will show you the format and length required for the field.

Why we ask for it

We may ask for this information to help identify the recipient, meet local payment requirements and support our compliance checks.

Where to get the number

Your recipient is the best person to provide this number. If they aren't sure where to find it, common sources include:

  • The Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil website or app (the Colombian authority that issues Cédulas)
  • Their Cédula de Ciudadanía (national ID) card
  • Their employment or tax records

Step 1: Open the add recipient screen

  • Log in to your Send account.
  • Go to the Recipients page.

  • Once the number is entered, continue with the rest of the recipient details.
  • Review the information before you save the recipient.

What happens next

  • Once you save the recipient, we'll review their details. You'll be able to make a payment to them once they've been approved.
  • For more information on this, see How long does it take to verify my recipient?
  • If we need to confirm any details, we may contact you for more information.

Common questions

I don't know my recipient's Cédula or CC number

  • Only the recipient will have this information. We can't look it up for you.
  • Ask your recipient to provide the number shown on their official identification documents.

The form won't accept the number I entered

  • Remove any spaces or dashes. Only the digits should be entered.
  • Check that the number matches the format guidance shown in the field.
  • Double-check the number with your recipient.

My recipient is a business in Colombia. What do I enter?

  • You won't see this field when adding a business recipient. Send only asks for the Cédula (CC number) when you're adding an individual.
  • When adding a business recipient, you may be asked for the business NIT (Número de Identificación Tributaria) instead.

Why do you ask for this?

  • We may ask for this information to help identify the recipient, meet local payment requirements and support our compliance checks.
