What if I want to send more than my bank allows?
If you want to make a large transfer into your Send account, your own bank may limit how much you can send in one go. This article explains why that happens and what you can do about it.
Before you start
- This article is about your own bank's transfer limits, not Send's.
- You'll need access to your online banking, mobile app, or your bank's phone number.
- If you're not sure what to do, our support team can help.
How to check how much you can send
Step 1: Check your bank's transfer limit
Most banks set a daily limit on "Pay Anyone" transfers. The amount depends on your bank and your account type.
- Check your daily transfer limit in your online banking or mobile app.
- If your transfer is over that limit, your bank will decline it before the money reaches Send.
Step 2: Contact your bank about your transfer limit
One option is to contact your bank to ask whether they can raise your transfer limit.
- Call your bank, or use the secure message feature in your banking app.
- Some banks may let you raise your limit for a short period only (for example, 24 hours).
- Each bank has its own rules and processes, so ask what options are available to you.
Step 3: Send the money to your Send wallet
Once your bank's limit allows it, send the funds to your Send wallet using the deposit details in your Send account.
- You can use your Bank transfer or your PayID, whichever your bank prefers.
- Make sure the Account Name matches the details shown in your Send account.
- Once your wallet is funded, you can confirm your payment.
For help with the payment itself, see How do I send money with Send?.
If your bank suggests RTGS
For large transfers, your bank may suggest sending the funds by RTGS (Real-Time Gross Settlement) instead of a standard "Pay Anyone" transfer. RTGS is a bank-to-bank transfer typically used for large-value payments, such as property settlements.
A few things to know:
- Send supports RTGS for AUD deposits.
- Your bank may charge a fee to send an RTGS payment. Please check with your bank before you send.
- For large or property-related payments, Send may request additional information or supporting documents to verify the source of funds before the payment is credited to your wallet. Please be ready to provide documents if we ask.
- To find the RTGS bank details, log in to Send, open your AUD wallet, select Add funds to your wallet, then select Change to switch the pay-in method to RTGS.
- If RTGS is not shown in your wallet, an in-app message will display the contact details to use. Please contact us using those details.
For step-by-step instructions, see RTGS Pay ins.
What happens next
- Most domestic transfers reach your Send wallet shortly after your bank releases the funds.
- The status updates in your recent transactions.
- Your bank may take longer to release larger amounts, especially for first-time transfers.
- If your bank blocks the transfer, the money stays in your bank account. Try again after your limit has been raised.
- If something doesn't look right, contact our support team.
Common questions
My bank says the transfer is over my daily limit.
- This limit is set by your bank, not by Send.
- Contact your bank to ask them to raise your limit, or to confirm what your limit is.
I have a very large amount to send. What's the best way?
- Please contact our support team before you start. We can explain the available funding options and let you know whether any additional checks or information may be required.
My bank has suggested I use RTGS instead. Can I?
- Yes. Send supports RTGS for AUD deposits, and it is commonly used for large-value payments such as property settlements.
- Your bank may charge a fee to send an RTGS payment, so please check with them first.
- For large or property-related payments, Send may ask for supporting documents before the funds are credited.
- For step-by-step instructions, see RTGS Pay ins.
Can I split my deposit into smaller transfers across a few days?
- Yes, you can make multiple deposits into your Send wallet.
- We recommend adding the full amount to your Send wallet before you book your payment, or on the same day you book the payment or transfer. Things run more smoothly when we are not waiting for your deposits to arrive.
- If your deposits take more than 2 business days, or if you have any questions, please contact our support team.
My bank won't raise my limit. What can I do?
- Every bank is different. Please contact our support team and we can explain the available options and any relevant account or payment requirements.
Will my exchange rate stay the same while I sort this out?
- Exchange rates are indicative, subject to market movement.
- Once you confirm your payment or transfer, your exchange rate is guaranteed as long as you fund the transaction in time. For more detail, see Is my exchange rate locked in?
