How to add a recipient's address manually
This article helps you fill in your recipient's address manually when the address lookup can't find them. It includes examples for common countries so you know what to put in each field.
Before you start
- For individual recipients:
- You'll need your recipient's full residential address, including any apartment or unit number and the post code.
- You'll need to know the country they live in.
- If you're unsure of the recipient's full residential address, check with them before continuing. Don't use the bank's address, as this may delay the recipient being activated or cause the recipient to be rejected.
- For more information see How to add a new recipient
- For business recipients:
- You'll need the recipient's full registered business address, including any suite, floor, or unit number and the post code.
- If you're unsure of the recipient's registered business address, check with them before continuing. Don't use the bank's address, as this may delay the recipient being activated or cause the recipient to be rejected.

Common questions
My recipient's country doesn't have states - what do I put in the State field?
- Some countries (like New Zealand and Singapore) don't use states. They use regions instead.
- Because the State field is required, enter the region, province, or county name that fits your recipient's country.
My recipient's address is in Chinese characters. Will it work?
- You can enter the address in English using Pinyin (the romanised version).
- Just make sure the address still matches where your recipient actually lives.
The address is too long for the Street address field
- If your address has lots of detail (like a building name, floor, and street), put the smaller details (room, floor, building name) in Apt, suite, etc.
- Keep the street and number in Street address.
I'm not sure what counts as 'City or suburb'
- Use the town, city, or suburb where your recipient lives.
- For very large cities (like Shanghai or London), use the city name in this field, not the district or borough.
