How to add a new individual recipient

Add a new individual recipient so you can send money to them. This article walks you through what to enter and what happens after you save them.

You can add a recipient for:

  • Yourself - for example, an account you hold overseas.
  • Another person.
  • A business or trust.

This article covers adding an individual recipient. To send money to a company or organisation see, How to add a new business or trust recipient.

Before you start

  • You need an active Send account.
  • Have your recipient's full legal name ready.
  • Have your recipient's residential address.
  • Have your recipient's bank details for the country and currency you are sending to. Bank codes vary by country and currency (for example, IBAN, SWIFT/BIC, BSB, account number).
  • For some countries, you may be asked to provide additional tax information for the recipient.
  • You must add the recipient and wait for them to become Active before you can send money to them.

How to add an individual recipient

Step 1: Open the Recipients page

  • Sign in to the Send Portal.
  • In the left-hand navigation menu, select Recipients.

[Suggested visual: add a screenshot of the left-hand navigation with Recipients highlighted.]

Step 2: Start adding a new recipient

  • In the top right of the Recipients page, select Add recipient.
  • When asked for the recipient type, choose:
    • Myself - if you're an individual sending money to your own account (for example, an account you hold overseas).
    • A person - if you are sending money to another individual.
    • A business or trust - See, How to add a new business or trust recipient.

[Suggested visual: add a screenshot of the Add recipient button and the Individual / Business selection.]

Step 3: Enter the bank details

  • Choose the country the money is going to.
  • Choose the currency you want to send.

Step 4: Enter the recipient's personal details

Enter your recipient's details exactly as they appear on their bank account:

  • First name
  • Middle name (only if they have one)
  • Last name(s)
  • Residential address
  • If you chose Myself: Confirm your residential address.

Tip: Small differences, like a missing middle name or a typo, can cause the bank to reject the payment. Please double-check the spelling.

Step 5: Add tax information (if requested)

  • For some countries, you may be asked to provide additional tax information for the recipient.
  • If these fields appear, complete them carefully.
  • If no tax fields appear, you don't need to complete this step.

Step 6: Enter the account details

  • Account name (the name on their bank account)
  • Enter the bank codes and account details shown on screen. The fields will change based on the country and currency you selected.
  • If you need help finding a particular bank code, please contact our support team.
  • Check every field carefully.

[Suggested visual: add a screenshot of the bank details section showing how fields change for different countries.]

Step 7: Check the bank validation

For some countries, we automatically check the bank code you entered. We do this for:

  • ABA routing number (United States)
  • BSB (Australia)
  • Clearing Code (Canada)
  • Account number (New Zealand)
  • Sort Code (United Kingdom)
  • SWIFT/BIC (many countries)
  • Bank Code (South Africa)

When validation is available, you will see a panel showing the bank's name and country. We will also let you know if the bank is located in a different country to the one you chose.

  • If the bank name and country look right, click Next.
  • If anything looks wrong, check the details with your recipient before continuing.

[Suggested visual: add a screenshot of the bank validation panel.]

What happens next

After you save, the recipient will be reviewed before you can use them for payments.

While the review is in progress, you may see one of these statuses in the portal:

  • PENDING - the recipient is under review.
  • ACTIVE - the recipient is available to use.
  • INACTIVE - the recipient is not available to use.

If we need any extra information from you, you'll see a task in your portal. Just follow the instructions shown there.
