Before you start

  • You need an active Send account.
  • You need an active recipient or active wallet saved to your account.
  • Have the exact amount and currency you want to send ready.

For the full step-by-step on starting a payment, see How do I send money with Send. The notes below focus only on entering an exact amount.

How to send an exact amount.

There are two ways to send an exact amount. Choose the option that matches what's most important to you:

  1. I want an exact amount to leave my account.
Go to Option 1: Sending an exact amount from your account
  2. I want my recipient to receive an exact amount.
Go to Option 2: Sending so your recipient receives an exact amount

Option 1: Sending an exact amount from your account

Step 1: Start your payment and choose your recipient or wallet

Follow Steps 1 and 2 in How do I send money to a recipient with Send to start a payment from the dashboard and choose the person or business you're paying.

Step 2: Enter the exact amount in the "You send" field

On the Create payment quote screen:

  • In the You send field, choose the wallet (currency) you want to pay from.
  • Type the exact amount you want to send into the You send field.
  • The They receive amount will calculate automatically based on the live exchange rate.

If you enter your amount in the You send field, that's the exact amount that will leave your wallet (in addition to any Send fees shown in your summary).

Step 3: Review your rate, fees, and timing

Once you enter an amount, a 2.5 minute timer starts at the top of the screen. Take a moment to check:

  • The amount you're sending and the amount your recipient will receive
  • The exchange rate
  • The estimated arrival time
  • Any fees from Send

About your exchange rate

When you confirm your payment, your exchange rate is locked in and your trade is booked at that rate. Your rate is guaranteed as long as you fund the payment by the deadline shown in your email confirmation. If your payment isn't funded in time, it may be cancelled - cancelling can result in a cost, and you'll need to rebook at the current rate.

For more detail, see Is my exchange rate locked in?

When you're happy, select Next.

Step 4: Confirm your payment

Follow Steps 5 and 6 in How do I send money with Send to choose a payment reason, add an optional reference, and confirm your payment.

By selecting Confirm, you agree that this payment instruction is legally binding. If you don't fund the payment as agreed, your payment may be cancelled and you may need to cover any cancellation costs.

Option 2: Sending so your recipient receives an exact amount

Step 1: Start your payment and choose your recipient

Follow Steps 1 and 2 in How do I send money with Send to start a payment from the dashboard and choose the person or business you're paying.

Step 2: Enter the exact amount in the "They receive" field

On the Create payment quote screen:

  • In the You send field, choose the wallet (currency) you want to pay from.
  • Type the exact amount you want your recipient to receive into the They receive field.
  • The You send amount will calculate automatically based on the live exchange rate. This is how much will leave your wallet, in addition to any Send fees shown in your summary.

A note on what your recipient receives

When you enter an amount in the You send field, Send will send the exact amount you confirmed, less any Send fees shown in your summary. After your payment leaves Send's network, other banks involved in delivering it, including the recipient's own bank and any intermediary or correspondent banks, may deduct their own fees. These fees are set and charged by those banks, not by Send, and are outside Send's control. Because of this, Send cannot guarantee the final amount that will reach your recipient.

If you need a specific amount to arrive with your recipient, we recommend asking the recipient's bank about possible fees so you can plan accordingly.

Common questions

My recipient received less than I sent

  • For some international payments, the receiving or intermediary banks may deduct additional fees. These fees are outside Send's control.
  • Send only deducts the fees shown in your payment summary.
  • If you need a specific amount to arrive, contact your recipient's bank to ask about possible fees, then increase your You send amount to cover them.
  • If you have any questions about the amount received, contact our support team and have your transaction ID ready.

I want my recipient to receive a specific amount

  • On the Create payment screen, you can also enter your figure in the They receive field instead of You send. The You send amount will calculate automatically.
  • For full step-by-step instructions, see How do I send money with Send.

My quote expired before I could confirm

  • Quotes are valid for 2.5 minutes only because exchange rates are subject to market movement.
  • If your quote expires, we’ll send you an updated rate. You can accept the new rate, re-enter your amount for a fresh quote, or simply cancel the transaction.

I'm not sure which fees apply

  • Your payment summary shows the Send fees that will be deducted before you confirm.
  • Other banks involved in delivering the payment may also charge fees.
  • For more details, see Does Send charge fees to send my money?.
  • For information about minimum and maximum amounts, see Is there a minimum or maximum amount I can send?
