Can you confirm account details are correct?
Wondering if Send checks that your recipient's account details are correct before you send money? This article explains what we verify, what we don't, and how you can make sure your money reaches the right place.
Before you start
- Have your recipient's full bank details ready (bank code, account number, account name, and bank country).
- It's a good idea to confirm these details directly with your recipient before adding them, ideally over a phone call or in person.
- You'll need an active Send account.
What Send checks
When you add a recipient and enter their bank code (such as a SWIFT/BIC code, BSB, or other local clearing code), Send will:
- Check that the bank code is a real, recognised code.
- Show you the bank name and bank country linked to that code.
This helps you confirm you've entered the right bank.
[Suggested visual: add a screenshot of the Add Recipient screen showing the bank name appearing after a SWIFT/BIC code is entered.]
What Send cannot check
Send does not currently:
- Confirm that the account number belongs to the person or business you've named.
- Match the recipient's name to the account number (sometimes called a name check or "Confirmation of Payee").
- Verify whether a transaction is legitimate or whether the recipient is who they say they are.
Because Send does not verify account ownership or match the recipient's name to the account, you should confirm the recipient's details directly with them before sending.
How to do your own quick checks
Before you save a recipient or send money, we recommend:
- Confirm details with your recipient directly. A quick phone call or video call is best. Avoid relying only on email or messages, as these can be intercepted.
- Check the bank name shown in Send matches what your recipient told you. If the bank or country doesn't look right, stop and double-check the code.
- Send a small test transfer first. For new recipients or large amounts, a small first payment is a simple way to confirm everything is set up correctly before sending more.
- Review every detail on the confirmation screen before you approve the transfer.
Watch out for scam red flags
Scammers often target international payments. Pause and double-check before sending if you notice any of the following:
- Bank details have changed at short notice, especially for a recipient you've paid before.
- You're being pressured to pay urgently or asked to keep the payment secret.
- The request came through email, text, or social media only, with no chance to confirm by voice.
- The new account is in a different country or bank than you'd expect.
If anything feels off, stop and verify the request using a phone number or contact method you already trust - not one provided in the message itself. For more guidance, see Security and scams.
What happens next
- Once you've added a recipient, their details are saved so you can use them again.
- When you send money, Send passes your payment to our partner bank using the details you provided.
- If the bank code is invalid, you'll see an error and won't be able to save the recipient until it's corrected.
- If you think you've sent money to the wrong account, please contact our support team immediately so we can review the payment and let you know what options may be available.
Please note: If payment details are incorrect, recovery may not be possible in every case. The sooner you let us know, the more we may be able to help.<

Common questions
The bank name shown isn't the bank my recipient told me to use.
- The bank code (SWIFT/BIC, BSB or local clearing code) you entered may belong to a different bank or branch.
- Stop and check the code with your recipient. Ask them to send you a recent bank statement or a screenshot from their banking app showing their full payment details.
- For help finding the right code, see International bank codes.
I've entered the account number but Send didn't tell me the recipient's name.
- Send only validates the bank code, not the account number or recipient name.
- This is normal. Please confirm the account number and account name directly with your recipient before sending.
I think I've sent money to the wrong account. What do I do?
- Contact our support team straight away using the details below.
- Have your transaction number ready, along with the correct details you intended to use.
- Acting quickly helps us review the payment and advise on any options that may be available.
How do I know my recipient's request is genuine?
- Scammers sometimes pose as suppliers, family members or staff and ask for payments to new accounts.
- Always verify any new or changed bank details directly with the person or business, using a phone number or contact method you already trust (not one provided in the request itself).
- Be extra cautious if you're being rushed, asked to keep things quiet, or the bank details have suddenly changed.
- For more guidance, see Security and scams.
How do I add a new recipient?
